When I am cooking you can always find Brody in the kitchen. ALWAYS. He loves all vegetables and fruits and has a particular soft spot for tomatoes. He is my little furry foodie! The only thing he ever turns his nose up to are leaves. Basil leaves, spinach leaves, lettuce…it doesn’t matter what kind. It must be a texture thing, like me and oysters. 😛 Besides tomatoes, Brody’s favorite thing to eat is peanut butter. So when I had a banana way past it’s prime, I thought I would make him some homemade treats. He would enjoy them way more then we would enjoy another loaf of banana bread!
These were extremely easy to put together. The original recipe tells you to roll them out and then cut them into shapes like you would sugar cookies. There were a couple problems with that. First, the dough was not a good dough to roll out. It was extremely sticky. Second, umm Brody gobbled one of these down without taking a second glance at it. I think he could care less if they were in the shape of a bone or hydrant! Fair warning though, if you do not make them into shapes…warn your spouse that they are for the four legged only! Jorge grabbed one while I was showering and proceeded to tell me my cookies tasted like crap. LOL 🙂 However, they would be good for humans too if you added a cup of sugar to them!!
1/3 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 overly ripe banana, mashed
2 tablespoon honey
1 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup wheat germ (or a 1/2 cup flour)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.
Stir together egg, peanut butter, banana, and honey in a medium bowl; blend thoroughly. Stir in the oats and wheat germ; mix well.
Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and place on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately smash cookie into a disk with the bottom of a glass. Cool on a wire rack.
These save great in a zip lock bag up to a week for your favorite mutt!
