Gift Guide for your Bitesize Budget & a Giveaway!*

In case you missed the Christmas trees, or were passed out through Thanksgiving, I am here to announce that the Holiday Season of 2011 has officially begun! And it has brought holiday potlucks and white elephant exchanges with it! If you are like most of America, your wallet looks a lot like it did when you were 12. Empty, except a few stray dollars that you were planning to buy a new Lisa Frank notebook with. Oh and that old/deactivated credit card that your Mom gave you to play with…but according to the liquor store it expired in 1982. In other words, if you are like me, you aren’t going to be playing Oprah this Christmas. (and you get a car! and you get a car! and you get a car!)

It’s that lovely time of year when you have to buy your overly chatty coworker something for Christmas. Not because she was on top of your list, but because she bought you something…and you don’t want to feel like an asshat for not getting her something in return. Or worse, have her hold it over your head till next year. So this year, thanks to my handy dandy gift guide, you will be prepared! To save you and your wallet, I have pulled together a list of 6 of my favorite kitchen gifts for under $25 each!

But that’s not all, over the next couple of weeks, I will be giving away one of each of the items above to one of you! I will also be giving away a few awesome cookbooks (along with a copy of The Food Stylist’s Handbook) and one big ticket item that will remain a surprise! Since all of these giveaways will be sponsored by TNCB, they will not all be handed out on the blog. Some will be given away on facebook, some on twitter, and some here on the blog! Follow along on each to win!

1. Pink Salt Pig: Everyone needs a salt pig! It keeps your favorite salt nearby and fresh. Grabbing a pinch or two as you are cooking has never been easier. And to be perfectly honest, I put it on here because it’s ‘effing adorable. If you turn it around, it even has a pink curly tail! Salt shakers are so 2010. -find on amazon.com for $7.95 with free shipping

2. Best Ever Cupcake Icing Kit: I swear I didn’t make that name up. It’s the real name for this awesome 6 piece decorating kit. The tips are giant and make the perfect swirls of buttercream. It comes with 5 styles of tips and a 16 inch pastry bag made to fit the larger tips. It is the only way I will decorate my cupcakes! -find on bakeitpretty.com for $19.50 with free shipping

3. Misto: I have talked about my love for my Misto many, many times before. But for those who may have missed it, a Misto turns your pure Olive Oil into a spray (like Pam aerosol sprays). Anytime I find myself at the stove, I also find myself using my Misto. I never buy preservative/artificial Pam, or worry about goblets of olive oil on my salad, and it even comes in different colors now! -find on amazon.com for $9.99 with free shipping

4. Williams-Sonoma Gift Card: Because who doesn’t like to walk into Williams-Sonoma and know they get to spend someone elses money on that overly priced tea towel? You can buy a traditional card or instantly mail an e-gift card to an email. It’s perfect for those forgetful gifters! -find on williams-sonoma.com for your choice of amount

5. Bodum 8 Cup French Coffee Press: On a lazy Sunday morning, the only coffee that will do is a slow brewed, traditional cup of joe from your French Press. Sure I love my Keurig and it’s 2 minute coffee on Monday mornings…but nothing will beat that wonderful flavor you can get with just a little more seeping time. Plus, it’s one of the only things invented in the 80’s that is still cool today. -find on amazon.com for $24.99 with free shipping

6. Silpat: It’s a step up from the classic parchment paper in every way possible! It’s green: no more throwing away all that paper. It’s cheaper: a Silpat will never go bad, but you can only use that roll of parchment paper once. It’s easier: no more ripping the parchment paper while trying to get it to cut on those silly little metal teeth. -find on amazon.com for $19.99 with free shipping

I *just* posted about an hour ago with a Baking Supplies post. I just went to BB & Beyond today…picked up another Silpat, a cookie-decorating kit, and would love love to win a $50 Williams Sonoma treat!

    NICE…thanks for the great giveaway!

Best dance move? Slithering away from creepers on the dance floor who dance way to close for comfort. Escape artist is my best move.

Love the gift guide! Bake it pretty’s icing kit is awesome! (plus i love their cupcake liners!). Hm, best dance move…well that’s a hard one considering I can’t dance….oh! the super-awkward-jump-up-and-down-like-you-know-what-you’re-doin-dance!!

    Jessica F — December 2, 2011 @ 1:48 am

Mine is the twisty leg walk (technical name, clearly). You do it during argentine tango where the leader (not me) is walking forward and walks in between your legs with each move creating a motion where the follower (me) wraps their leg around the leader’s as they step backwards. Is this pattern of wrapping legs walking and kind of looks like a really cool, kind of sultry 4 legged octopus walking. Or something… Dance moves are difficult to describe.

I like dances that are enhanced accessories – I like to do the running man while wearing a sweat sweatband and some legwarmers (on top of Velcro/lace-up shoes, obviously!)

Love the pink salt pig! It seems much more practical than the tiny bowl I have now (way to prone to spillage with my clumsiness!)

Basically, I can rock the “shopping cart” like nobody’s business out on the dance floor.

Funny you should ask for a picture of us with our favorite kitchen item; I took a picture a couple weeks ago with my favorite item that also doubles as a snazzy accessory. Behold, the Onion Goggles! http://instagr.am/p/UhLKe/ (oh, and they are freaking awesome—I haven’t shed a single tear {while slicing onions} since I bought them)

    Amy @ The Nifty Foodie — December 2, 2011 @ 8:22 am

I’m known for NOT being able to dance. If I’m put in a situation where I have to dance with someone, I try to laugh at myself by doing something lame like the sprinkler. You don’t want to be near me on the dance floor. :-P

  17. 17

I’m engaged to a lovely Canadian man who is a complete danceaholic. He never stops moving. Me? I’m the “white – overbite” dancer or perhaps even “the never gets up on the dancefloor – bar stool dancer”. . I would have to say that my favorite dance is when he gets me tipsy (liquid courage) and twirls me around the room and I actually don’t look like a (or even feel like) complete idiot.

  23. 23

    Heather — December 2, 2011 @ 8:53 am

my best dance move – it’s called “The Heather.” Yes, I’m serious. I will now teach you how to do it…

First, stand shoulder width apart, with your right foot slightly in front of your left foot. Now, pop out your right hip. Extend your arms straight out in front of you, with flat palms, as if you are giving someone in front of you “high ten!” Then move your arms up and down, opposite of one another [left is up while right is down, etc.] brining the total distance your hand moves about one foot from the highest point to the lowest point. As you are doing this, also move your arms from the right side of the body, to the left side and back again, all the while rocking your hips back and forth. Once you have made your arms go up and down all the way from the right side to the left side and back again, you “bring it back.” Basically, you bring your hands towards your body in a circular motion, grooving to the music.

I now realize that I must make a video for my blog, explaining the heather, as this is really not doing it justice ;)

    Karen K. — December 2, 2011 @ 8:58 am

I rock the chicken dance! :) I think it’s my German heritage.

  25. 25

    Emily — December 2, 2011 @ 8:59 am

My best move is flailing around like a moron. I seriously have no rhythm at all! it’s sad actuallly

  26. 26

    Nelly Rodriguez — December 2, 2011 @ 8:59 am

Oh dear, does it count that I am not a dancer at all!? Hey, I’m a really good clapper!

I have always wanted to shop at Williams Sonoma but I’m sooooo cheap!

My best move is the Sir Mix A Lot “Baby Got Back” booty pop and a rather pathetic cabbage patch.

  30. 30

    courtney — December 2, 2011 @ 9:46 am

i am a ball of ridiculousness when i dance. i’ll typically a) stomp around and/or booty shake, b) shake my mess of curly hair around like an 80s rocker bc i was born in the wrong decade, c) do some sort of chubby checker / ironically terrible fist pump, d) charlston bc i was again born in the wrong decade and i love jazz music and/or e) sing along to every word to every song with corresponding hand gestures. any or a combination of the above. with a delirium tremens in hand bc i have to be slightly unsober to unleash said ridiculousness.

  31. 31

    Amanda W — December 2, 2011 @ 9:47 am

  33. 33

    Heidi @ Food Doodles — December 2, 2011 @ 10:02 am

Love your suggestions and I’m laughing at the “best dance move” thing. Actually I’m laughing at myself trying to think of my best dance move. I do my best dancing with small children, and the really exceptional dancing is done before they can even talk and tell anyone else how uncoordinated it was, haha. Don’t know what you would call that… The Toddler Tango?

  47. 47

    Tara @ Chip Chip Hooray — December 2, 2011 @ 11:11 am

My best dance move is undoubtedly the sprinkler. (Aka one hand bent behind your head, other arm straight out oscillating like a sprinkler head. Try it–it can’t be beat!)

  48. 48

    Meredith — December 2, 2011 @ 11:19 am

My best dance move is the sprinkler! I make it rain!

  49. 49

    Heather K Miller — December 2, 2011 @ 11:19 am

I am a horrible dancer! There is no denying that. My multiple rejections from the drill team and cheerleading squad prove that! But my kids don’t know that yet and during these last few months of holiday fun, we have been turning up the song Monster Mash to full volume and dancing our buns off to that. So I will call my expert dance move “THE Monster Mash.” Its awesome.

I am loving the fist pump….lol.

  51. 51

    Kari — December 2, 2011 @ 11:22 am

My dad was in a band in his younger years and they played straight up Rock-n-Roll. He wasn’t, however, up to date with his dancing skills and always resorted to the Oldies “twist.” I’ve been imitating my fathers goofy display for so long that I’ve mastered it. Unfortunately, it’s so ingrained at this point I can’t control myself when the music starts. I now embarrass my daughter.

My best move would have to be the ‘running man’. I have been perfecting it since the early 90’s and it gets busted out any time an awesome jam comes on the radio!

I love your gift guide items…the salt pig is adorable, misto looks awesome (how did i not know about this), sipat is a great alternative to parchment paper…and who wouldn’t love a gift card to Williams and Sonoma!!??

My best dance move is my new favorite that I learned over Thanksgiving with my family: it’s called the motorcycle. You put two fits in the air and rotate like you’re revving your motorcycle and bop your hips. Now I pass this to you–it will be a crowd pleaser!

My coolest dance move….. “The Wheels on the Bus Go ‘Round and “Round.” As you know by that, I have the moves of turkey. LOL! It was the only thing and I do mean ONLY thing that would hush my son up. He cried for 11 straight months unless I sang and danced to the Wheels on the Bus! By the way, would really love, love, love to win the Williams-Sonoma gift card!

I like doing the “swimmer’s” dance…plug the nose, point a finger in the air while wiggling your butt down (like you’re going into water). = )

    Shannon O'Connell — December 2, 2011 @ 2:23 pm

Well, being the plus sized girl I am, I tend to resort to the hip roll. I took striptease aerobics and have also done burlesque, so as long as I roll the hips and shake the girls a little, I tend to blind people into thinking I can dance.

    Krystal @ {Mrs. Regueiro's Plate} — December 2, 2011 @ 2:35 pm

I’m proud to say that my best move is “dropping it like it’s hot” with the booty roll. I’m one of those shake what your momma gave you kinda dancers, and I love rocking it out!!

  83. 83

    Erin R. — December 2, 2011 @ 2:39 pm

Oh, gosh, dancing? I don’t necessarily do that in front of people now that I know better, but I secretly love that snake move they do on the movie “Breakin'” where you kind of wiggle your body in a wave down to your feet and then the reverse wave back up to your head. No, I’m not good at it like Ozone was, but I love to try.

    1. I love your christmas picks & the giveaway.
    2. You crack me up with your dance moves question. I would say that I am a booty shaker. I went to a very diverse high school and learned from the best. My husband decided it would be funny to learn the superman dance and did it at our wedding… he’s crazy. lol He also likes to break dance when intoxicated.

You know the person on the dance floor who looks entirely ridiculous but dances her heart out anyways? Ya, that’s me. I’m not sure any of my moves can be considered superb, but I can line dance my little heart out and not look quite as ridiculous as normal. haha.

    Kimiko — December 3, 2011 @ 1:22 pm

OH gosh, after reading all of the previous commenters, I don’t think I can top those. Hahaha! My dance move is pretty much just a “put your hands in the air and sway” kind of thing…I’m not a dancer. My sister got the dancing genes. I just got the baking/cooking genes…but I’m perfectly ok with that. LOL

  121. 121

    Allie — December 3, 2011 @ 2:22 pm

You’re going to laugh…but my best dance move (okay…fine, my ONLY dance move) is that hands-circle-omg-I’m-at-a-rave movie. You know which one I mean!? Where you have both hands and you’re waving them around in front of your face like a weirdo trying to circle a ball that really isn’t there? I guess it probably works better when you have two glow sticks in your hands and maybe some sort of mind-altering drugs (I’ve never been to a rave or had mind-altering drugs), but I like to do it anyway!

I used to be able to dance the night away doing them all …. electric slide, swing, two step, etc …. but these days I don’t get out much. I’m a single parent, have four children, work full time and I’m back in college. I love reading your blog and cooking in my spare time … my coworkers reap the benefits of the baking I do as my children don’t like all the new things I try.

My favorite thing to do is pirouette around my kitchen like a ballerina while I wait for the oven or microwave to ding. It’s usually just enough time for me to convince myself that I’ve missed my true calling, but not enough time for me to take an ungraceful tumble!

I’m a really good car dancer. That way I don’t have to use my feet which really don’t do anything anyways when I dance. People even made fun of me when I danced with my husband and dad at my wedding – we shuffled across the floor is slow circles and stopped a lot so people could take pictures – less dancing that way!!
